Stage 1 of 7

Mission

Who you are, what you are finding out, and what success looks like.

Showing stage 1 of 7: Mission

This mission came home with almost nothing. The spacecraft was healthy at launch, the payload worked, and the ground station was listening - and still, hardly any data arrived. Your team has the mission readings. Work out what happened.

The payload worked and the data never arrived. What stopped it?

Your role
Mission operations investigator
Objective
Trace the modeled failure sequence and recommend one policy change that addresses the decisive cause.
Success looks like
Run the mission, connect battery state to safe mode and delivery loss, select evidence, and propose one justified change.

Learning outcomes · Grade 8

What you should be able to do, and the evidence that shows it.

  • 01By the end of this mission, the learner will be able to diagnose which decision caused this mission to fail against a stated objective, and demonstrate this by naming the objective before citing the evidence.
  • 02By the end of this mission, the learner will be able to analyse why collecting more data can reduce how much data arrives, and demonstrate this by relating the payload reading to the downlink reading.
  • 03By the end of this mission, the learner will be able to evaluate what this model does not establish about recovering a real mission, and demonstrate this by naming a limitation specific to this operations study.
