Stage 1 of 7

Mission

Who you are, what you are finding out, and what success looks like.

Showing stage 1 of 7: Mission

This mission came home with almost nothing. The spacecraft was healthy at launch, the payload worked, and the ground station was listening - and still, hardly any data arrived. Your team has the mission readings. Work out what happened.

The payload worked and the data never arrived. What stopped it?

Your role
Mission operations investigator
Objective
Trace the modeled failure sequence and recommend one policy change that addresses the decisive cause.
Success looks like
Run the mission, connect battery state to safe mode and delivery loss, select evidence, and propose one justified change.

Learning outcomes · Grade 6

What you should be able to do, and the evidence that shows it.

  • 01By the end of this mission, the learner will be able to describe what happened to the battery during the mission, and demonstrate this by pointing to a named feature of the plotted evidence.
  • 02By the end of this mission, the learner will be able to state that a spacecraft which runs out of power cannot do its job, and demonstrate this by recording that expectation before the run.
  • 03By the end of this mission, the learner will be able to say that these mission readings come from a model rather than from a real spacecraft, and demonstrate this by naming one thing the model does not cover.
