Stage 1 of 7

Mission

Who you are, what you are finding out, and what success looks like.

Showing stage 1 of 7: Mission

Every orbit, your spacecraft passes behind the Earth. For that stretch there is no sunlight, no power from the panels, and everything has to run off the battery. Your team will send two different spacecraft through the same shadow and work out which one comes through it in better shape.

When the Sun disappears, which spacecraft copes better - and how would you know?

Your role
Spacecraft energy-budget engineer
Objective
Compare two spacecraft profiles through the same modeled eclipse and recommend the more resilient energy strategy.
Success looks like
Run both profiles, compare generation, consumption, and battery state, then make a bounded recommendation with a limitation.

What you should be able to do, and the evidence that shows it.

  • 01By the end of this mission, the learner will be able to design a traceable comparison of the two thermal-power profiles under one controlled scenario, and demonstrate this by stating which variables were held constant.
  • 02By the end of this mission, the learner will be able to assess what verification evidence this deterministic study provides and what it withholds, and demonstrate this by separating simulated channels from derived ones.
  • 03By the end of this mission, the learner will be able to validate the limits of applying this study to a flight design, and demonstrate this by stating the qualification evidence that would still be required.
